Youth Program

YOUTH LEADERship Ashtabula County is a leadership development and educational experience for high school juniors (and seniors from ACJVS) in Ashtabula County.

The purpose is to enhance the abilities, awareness and special talents of our most promising young people.

It is our vision that these leaders will have a positive impact on the quality of life in our community and to put them on our communities teams to build a better future. The program offers nine one-day sessions focusing on different topics that affect the community.

Within the YOUTH LEADERship Program, you will interact with a number of adult leaders each day to gain a greater understanding of contemporary and future issues through problem-solving.

The Program will introduce you to the diverse community that is Ashtabula County.

Session topics include:

  • Opening Retreat
  • Physical Initiatives Course
  • Ethics
  • Diversity
  • Communication
  • Perspective
  • Critical Thinking
  • Self Assessment
  • Leadership Development
  • Public Speaking
You may excel athletically or scholastically, or you may not be so inclined. But there is one thing for sure, your friends look up to you and respect your opinion. Perhaps you would like to do more. You feel you have something to offer your friends and your community. You are a leader.

In YOUth LEADERship:

Within our Youth LEADERship Program, you, the class memeber, are given the opportunity to use and strengthen your leadership skills.

The course is not based on academic merit or athletic ability. It is based on character and interest in your community, a desire to shape ideas and attitudes in other people - Leadership.

You may not think of yourself as a leader, but if you are interested in improving your community, then you have something to offer.
You will have the opportunity to:

  • Increase your awareness of our community needs, opportunities and resources.
  • Gain a greater understanding of contemporary and future issues through interaction and problem-solving with peers, community leaders and decision makers.
  • Further enhance your communication skills and decision-making capabilities.
  • Develop the leadership concept of active involvement combined with integrity as an integral part of community responsibility.
  • Foster a greater understanding and appreciation of our community's cultural and economic diversity.
  • Improve skills in creative problem-solving, goal-setting, and cooperation.
How much does the program cost?

The $375 tuition covers all meals, materials and each day's travel expenses. Thanks to corporate sponsorships, tuition can be kept at a minimum for the students. Tuition is payable upon acceptance by the participant.
